About me

I've got a few hats. A lot of my work straddles science and media:

I have worked as a qualified journalist over 30 years across a broad range of titles and topics, at all levels (mainly newspapers, magazines, digital and contract publishing - eg science, wildlife, environment, music, arts, leisure, current affairs, human interest, plus various technical and niche interest titles).

I've also worked as an ecologist for 20 years (especially botany, bats, other mammals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates; lots on woodlands, grasslands, development land, urban ecology, habitat creation, mitigation, environmental management, lots of field surveys and consultancy report writing and public engagement).
This work has included mainly private sector consultancy plus some work in the academic, public and charity sectors, public outreach, creating and leading community projects and citizen science projects, campaigning, science and media comms.

I've developed and taught botany and ecology/nature workshops and training courses for adults and children.

I'm an author of 5 children's science books and a contributing author/editor on 2 other science books: https://uk.bookshop.org/shop/AlexMorss

I am an active union member involved in social justice campaigning, science media literacy, advocacy on human rights and media accountability in the UK and internationally.

I am also a wildlife charity trustee.
