About me

Andrew Bourne BA(Hons) DipArch MA PGCertHE ARB RIBA

Andrew has been a member of the RIBA since he was an architectural student at the Portsmouth School of Architecture, where he qualified in 2004. He has worked with the RIBA Education department since 1999, initially as a student member of the validation panel. Since qualifying he has continued to visit schools of architecture in the UK and abroad as an architect member of this peer review process. In 2005 Andrew joined the ARB as a lead examiner for the assessment examinations and for the last six years as a committee member of the RIBA NCG Committee. For the past seven years Andrew has been a committee member of the Bristol and Bath Branch, leading the branch as Chair in 2013-14.  Andrew is currently a Trustee for the RIBA and a Professional Part III Examiner at UWE, RIBA NW and Oxford Brookes University.  

Andrew has accrued eleven years of professional practice working for the Angus Meek Partnership, AWW, Barlow Henley Architects and Richard Pedlar Architects. Projects include new build office schemes, numerous residential projects, a Special Educational Needs Primary school and a Performing Arts Theatre. For the past few years this has lead to conservation-based projects such as converting a Comedy Club into a Mosque, private residential work and converting a disused hospital into a nursery school.

Andrew is Associate Head of Department for Student Experience in Architecture and the Built Environment at UWE and his teaching responsibilities include;

Studio Two;  taken by Architecture & Planning and Architecture Environmental Engineering students

Collaborative Practice in BIM: taken by final year ATD students

Work-based Research Project:  As a placement tutor for ATD students

Collaborative Practice: taken by nearly everyone in ABE.
