About me
I am a committed clinician and an innovative university teacher. I am an optometrist who specialises in seeing some of the more challenging patients. As a teacher I have grasped the opportunities presented by COVID to further develop innovative and effective teaching blending the opportunities of online technology with in person teaching to provide an integrated programme of development.
I spent thirty years building a community practice and for over twenty years combined this with specialist university clinics for patients with learning disabilities.
In this time I received a Masters degree from Cardiff Metropolitan University, a research grant from the College of Optometrists, was the driving force behind the Special Assessment clinic being recognised for Clinical Excellence, was presented with a Fellowship of the College of Optometrists and published 30 CET articles.
I maintain an active work life balance with activities as diverse as carpentry and cooking and can often be found taking lindy hop and jive dance lessons or researching vintage fashion.
Change drives innovation and good practice, and the opportunities that blended learning offers are to be embraced.
Previous teaching includes
- Professional Awareness (Professionalism)
- Further Investigative Techniques
- Special Assessment
- Study Skills
- Postgraduate paediatric modules
I am particularly interested in encouraging the authentic voice in assessments and have successfully employed novel assessment methods to facilitate this.
