About me
Dr Anne Eason is an Associate Professor in Trauma Informed Learning and Practice at UWE and the Associate Director for Policing in partnership with Avon and Somerset Police. A former Senior Probation Officer, her operational expertise is in the field of risk assessment and risk management in multi-agency environments. A pracademic, I have both insight and interest in how pracademics in criminal justice enhance learning through a practice-led approach to teaching. With an established publication record, I engage in knowledge exchange activities as well as research that focuses on operationalising trauma informed theory into policing practice, with particular interest in domestic and sexual abuse. I am a member of the College of Policing National Standardisation and Practice Group as well as the Academy for Social Justice.
My Professional Doctorate in Criminal Justice builds upon my operational experience exploring the use of emotional intelligence in police risk assessment of domestic incidents.
Area of expertise
My research interests are in trauma informed practice within the high risk of harm environment of domestic abuse and sexual offending. I also research the impact of trauma on criminal justice practitioners. As a former practitioner, I identify as a 'pracademic' with a special interest in how pracademics enhance learning through a practice-led approach to teaching.
I engage in knowledge exchange activities such as conferences, delivering Continous Professional Development, podcasts and world cafes. These are a crucial element of ensuring learning is relevant and practice-led, enhancing student experience and preparing an effective graduate workforce.
I have a growing number of publications, most recently as co editor of the book: McCartan et al., (2025) Developing and Implementing a Public Health and Criminological Approach to Tackling Sexual Abuse: Prevention, Treatment and Integration. Palgrave Macmillan (part of Springer Nature)
