About me

Dr Baiyang Shi is a Lecturer in Control at the University of the West of England (UWE, Bristol). He was awarded his PhD degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Nottingham in 2020. Prior to that, he gained his Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering in 2015 (University of Nottingham, Ningbo China) and Master degree in aeronautical engineering in 2016 (Imperial College, London). Before joining UWE, he worked at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China as a visiting Assistant Professor.

Area of expertise

Dr Baiyang Shi has a broad area of research interests, including nonlinear dynamics, inerter-based vibration isolation/control, structural optimization, vibration transmission and power flow analysis. Currently, he focuses on the following research topics:

  • Coupled structures with smooth/nonsmooth joint
  • Nonlinear vibration with geometric nonlinearity or uncertainty
  • Vibration isolation/control incorporating inerters
  • Energy transmission analysis with multi-frequency excitation
