Area of expertise

Dr Budi Chandra is currently a senior lecturer in Aerospace Engineering at UWE Bristol teaching subjects related to thermodynamics and fluid dynamics. He obtained his PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University, USA, with doctoral dissertation on flows in turbine engine oil sumps. His area of expertise includes Fluid Dynamics, Aerodynamics and Aero-Propulsion. Experience includes previous role as research fellow at Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre in Nottingham conducting research campaigns related to liquid and gas flows. Some highlights include development of measurement techniques (for oil residence volume in aero-engine bearing chamber, film thickness, oil mist concentration), design optimisation of aero-engine sump geometries, PIV measurements on convective heat flow, and high speed imaging combined with thermal imaging of droplets impacting on moving film. Current research includes scavenge flow in aero-engine shallow sumps, non-contact seals, and flow optimisation in medical devices as well as an industrial project on a novel oil-scoop delivery system for aero-engine bearings.
