About me

I joined the University of the West of England in June 2020 as Associate Dean Learning Teaching and Student Experience in the faculty of Business and Law.  In this role I have responsibility for developing and enhancing all aspects of the student experience, working with colleagues in the Business School and wider university to actively link the functional areas of the student learning experience, including administrative, learning support and academic delivery, to creatively deliver an outstanding learning experience for all students. I am an advocate of finding effective ways to hear the student voice and work in partnership with students to innovate in learning and teaching. My academic field is Mathematics and Statistics having completed a PhD in Theoretical Statistics at Aberystwyth University.  I have extensive experience of teaching mathematics and statistics in Higher Education with particular expertise in successfully delivering quantitative subjects to non-mathematics-specialist cohorts of students

Prior to taking up this role at UWE I have had held learning and teaching leadership roles in Middlesex University, The University of Bedfordshire and Coventry University. Consequently, I have over 20 years of experience in leading strategic development of learning and assessment practice at both a university and faculty level.  A defining characteristic of my leadership is collaborative working to implement evidence-based change underpinned by scholarly enquiry.  I have led the development of university level strategies in all aspects of the students learning experience. Whilst at the University of Bedfordshire Business School I led the Education Impact strand resulting in it being the first school in the UK to be recognised under EFMD's Business School Impact System (BSIS)

I am a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education academy, a National Teaching Fellow reviewer for AdvanceHE and have extensive experience of mentoring colleagues across the sector. I am currently the Vice chair of the Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS) Learning, Teaching and Student Experience committee.  I am also currently leading the CABS Leaders in Learning and Teaching Development Programme for current and aspiring leaders in Business Schools across the UK. I was a member of the group at CABS that developed and introduced the Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE) professional recognition and development scheme and hold CMBE recognition.  CMBE was launched in 2019 with members across most Business Schools in the UK and internationally.
