I am a lecturer in Human Resource Management at the College of Business and Law, University of the West of England (UWE). I bring over a decade of experience in higher education, having worked as both an academic administrator and lecturer at state and private universities in Sri Lanka. Before joining UWE, I had the opportunity to teach business and management at several UK institutions through partner programs, including the University of Salford, University of Gloucestershire, and Heriot-Watt University. I’ve also served as a visiting lecturer at the University of Moratuwa in Sri Lanka. In addition to teaching, I’ve held various administrative roles, such as an academic officer, and worked with educational organizations like OTHM and SQA in both teaching and managerial capacities. I'm also a registered research mentor at Oxford Brookes University.
I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in Sri Lanka in 2011, and later earned a master’s degree in business from the University of Delhi, India. I also hold a Higher National Diploma in Training and Human Resource Development, and my most recent qualification is an MSc in International Human Resource Management from UWE. My postgraduate research explored how cross-cultural training contributes to global reconciliation.
At UWE, I lead the foundation year program within the College of Business and Law, which supports students across 18 different disciplines, from Criminology and Law to Business and Finance. This program plays a crucial role in introducing students to academic life, helping them develop research-based learning, critical thinking, and a questioning mindset. It also equips them with the academic, technical, and communication skills necessary for future studies and career progression.
I teach across both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. At the undergraduate level, I cover modules such as Contemporary Business Issues, Introduction to Management, Managing People, and Academic and Professional Development. I also lead the International Human Resource Management module, which aims to foster global mindsets in students. For postgraduate students, I teach in areas like International Human Resource Management and International Resourcing and Talent Management. Additionally, I serve as a personal tutor to undergraduate business students and supervise dissertations for undergraduate and postgraduate students (MSc, MBA, EMBA), particularly in areas such as training and development, expatriate adjustment, cross-cultural training, work-life balance, gender pay gap, stress at work, and recruitment.
Alongside my teaching, I have contributed to quality assurance at UWE, working to enhance expertise and confidence within subject groups and improve the consistency and quality of curriculum development and change proposals.
My research interests lie in cross-cultural management, with a particular focus on the effectiveness of cross-cultural training for expatriate adjustment. Currently, I am pursuing a doctorate at UWE’s College of Education, where my research explores acculturation and its impact on the academic and personal trajectories of international students. Through this work, I aim to better understand how cultural adaptation shapes students’ experiences and their success in navigating life and education in a foreign country.
