About me

I joined UWE in 2023 as a Senior Lecturer, predominently on year two of the PCDA Policing programme. I am the Module Leader for 'Investigating Vulnerability and Risk', however I teach across a wide range of policing and criminology programmes offered at the university.

My qualifications include two Distinction level Master of Science Degrees in Psychology (2021) and Criminology and Criminal Justice (2004), as well as Post Graduate Certificates in Higher Education (2025) and Secondary Education (2007). I am accredited by AIM to supervise and complete AIM 3 and Under 12 Assessments and interventions for children displaying harmful sexual behaviour (HSB). I also hold a ONLR Level 4 qualification (distinction) for Service Managers of Domestic Abuse Services with Safe Lives. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a registered member of the British Psychological Society and the British Society of Criminology

I have an extensive background of working within education, social care and criminal justice, including prisoner rehabilitation at HMP Bristol and Leyhill, and as Police Staff in the Bristol Community Safety Team. I have over 12 years of teaching experience as Psychology teacher, Post 16 Head of Year and as a private tutor. I have examined for AQA and OCR A-Level and GCSE Psychology and I have also been privileged to teach at a primary school in Zimbabwe.

Prior to UWE, I was a Manager for North Somerset Youth Justice Service, part of Childrens' Services. This role involved a wide portfolio of responsibilities. I managed two multi-disciplinary teams that supported vulnerable young people who were victims of domestic abuse or crime, or risk of exploitation or involvement with criminal justice. This work involved close partnership work with Avon and Somerset Police, CAMHS, the OPCC, the Framework of Integrated Care VANGUARD and schools. I was HSB Lead for North Somerset Childrens' Services and in addition to general youth justice and YOT oversight, was responsible for the region's Referral Order Panels, as well as recruitment and training of panel members. My role also included oversight of the High Impact Families Team, now referred to as the Supporting Families Programme.

Area of expertise

My areas of specialism and interest include trauma informed ways of working, vulnerability and risk. This includes child exploitation and contextual safeguarding, violence against women and girls (VAWG) and domestic abuse, psychological impact of trauma, harmful sexual behaviour, peer abuse and youth justice.

I am part of the UWE Policing Blog editorial team and enjoy supporting authors, as well as publishing work and making my own contributions.
