About me
Clare Clement is a Research Fellow and PhD candidate at the Centre for Appearance Research (CAR). Her work focuses on developing and evaluating evidence-based interventions to support individuals with appearance-affecting conditions or injuries (also known as visible differences).
Clare began her PhD in January 2023, investigating the support needs of adults with visible differences and developing a needs assessment tool to identify the type and level of support they may require. The PhD is jointly funded by the VTCT Foundation and UWE Bristol. Since October 2023, Clare has also served as a Research Fellow within the VTCT Foundation team, leading the development and evaluation of an app-based course (ACT it Out) designed to support people facing psychological and social challenges due to having a visible difference.
Before joining UWE, Clare worked on developing and applying qualitative research methods within clinical trials. She has extensive experience in using qualitative and mixed methods across various studies in primary, secondary and community care and in different health areas. Areas Clare has worked in include (but is not limited to), emergency care, breast cancer, respiratory conditions and surgery. Clare's qualitative research has been instrumental in understanding the feasibility and implementation of trial interventions, gathering patient and healthcare professional views and experiences, and improving recruitment and retention in trials.
Clare enjoys collaborating with charities, healthcare professionals, and individuals with lived experience of visible differences. She is dedicated to developing and utilising research methods that capture and promote the diverse experiences and voices of stakeholders and individuals with lived experience.
