About me

Teaching and learning:

I am one of the Programme Leaders for our undergraduate psychology programmes.

I am the module leader for Forensic Psychology which is an optional module taken by students from applied science, sociology, criminology, and psychology. This module is also taken by students on the Applied Criminal Justice programme who are currently serving in the police.

Research and Practical experience:

Prior to academia, I worked for several years in the NHS within forensic services supporting those with complex criminal histories who were detained under the Mental Health Act. More recently, I have been working on evaluating the mental health of police officers and staff in the UK and Ireland.

I am a Trustee for Circles South West, and specialise in employability for those with a criminal record. I am in the process of developing an employability network for the UK. If you are interested in getting involved, let me know.

Finally, I am a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Investigative Interviewing Research Group (iIIRG), a deputy editor for Investigative Interviewing: Research & Practice (II:RP), and an active researcher in the field of investigative interviewing and lie detection.

Academic experience:

I have taught both Psychology and Criminology at the University of Portsmouth, the University of South Wales, and the University of Essex. My main area of specialism focuses on mental health and offending behaviour. Formerly, I was the Programme Area Leader (PAL) for postgraduate distance learning programmes. Prior to becoming the PAL, I was the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Coordinator alongside my academic role. This involved supporting student wellbeing and monitoring and promoting student engagement. I have coordinated various modules such as Understanding Criminology, Essential Skills for Criminologists, Forensic Psychology and Mental Health, Research Methods and the postgraduate Dissertation module. At UWE Bristol I teach across several modules and lead the Forensic Psychology teaching.
