About me

Background information:

As an undergraduate student I studied BSc (hons) Psychology at Bangor University, researching imitation in social settings. I completed an MSc Forensic Psychology at the University of Portsmouth exploring lie-detection and training. My PhD examined tools designed to enhance information elicitation and lie-detection.

Prior to academia I worked for several years in the NHS within forensic secure hospitals supporting offenders with complex mental health disorders. I have since been working with colleagues to develop research investigating employability barriers for sexual offenders. Additionally, I am in collaboration with Priory Healthcare to assess mental health barriers to employability. I am interested in mental health research and have worked on projects including mental health and policing. I have also consulted on an executive summary evaluating mental health provisions for the Defence School of Policing and Guarding.

Academic and Practical Experience:

I have taught both Psychology and Criminology at the University of Portsmouth. My main area of specialism focused upon mental health and offending behaviour. Formerly I was the Programme Area Leader (PAL) for postgraduate distance learning studies, overseeing the masters programmes. Prior to becoming the PAL, I was the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Coordinator alongside my academic role. This involved supporting student wellbeing and monitoring and promoting student engagement. I have coordinated various modules such as Understanding Criminology, Essential Skills for Criminologists, Forensic Psychology and Mental Health and the masters Dissertation module. At UWE Bristol I teach across several module and co-coordinate the Forensic Psychology Module.
