About me
Duncan McPhee is a socio-legal scholar with expertise in the area of sexual violence and Gender-Based Violence (GBV). With a multi-disciplinary background in law and the social sciences, Duncan has produced a range of works that explore the criminal justice response to sexual assault, rape and domestic violence. These works include research cited in government policy relating to specialist rape investigation teams, ‘offender centric’ strategies of policing and prosecution, and one of the largest UK-based studies exploring the criminal justice trajectories of reported domestic violence incidents. Duncan’s work, published in leading law and criminology journals, has received grant support from external bodies such as the Leverhulme Trust, the Police STAR Fund and the ESRC.
In 2025, Duncan worked alongside Gwent Police and Cyfannol Women's Aid in delivering a comprehensive review of Gwent Police's response to acts of violence against sex workers. He was also part of a multi-institution academic team working on 'Project Bright Light' - established to transform Avon and Somerset Constabulary's approach to the investigation of domestic abuse.
