About me

Eleanor Pender is a writer and senior lecturer in Media Production at the University of the West of England (UWE). Her research and practice focus is on the audience experience within the creative industries, artistic value, and approaches to storytelling.

Working in the arts and creative sector for over ten years, Eleanor combines teaching with industry expertise, working in theatre, literature, festivals, and libraries, and supported creative initiatives for children and young people in the UK and internationally. She has worked with key cultural organisations including The British Council, and UNESCO Creative Cities, Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature Trust, and Bristol City of Film.  

She specialises in project management, multi-partner project dissemination and collaborative working, working on Creative Europe multi-partner and Erasmus+ projects (2017-2021) and within key organisation support on the Creative Europe Desk UK. She module leads Media Production Project on the Media Production degree.

Eleanor is a member of The Society of Authors, the British Fantasy Society and the working group for Cymera Festival.

External Activities

As an experienced event moderator, Eleanor has chaired book and literary festivals across the UK, including The Edinburgh International Book Festival, The Young Adult Literature Convention (YALC), Cymera Festival, Bath Children's Literature Festival, Chadwell Heath Community Centre YA Fest (CHCCYA Fest) and Bristol Women’s Literature Festival. She has gone onto chair events both in person and online at Waterstones Bristol and Forbidden Planet.

Eleanor was KnowHow Features editor (2019-2021) for Words & Pictures, the online magazine for The Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
