About me

I have returned to UWE on an Associate Lecturer basis after a five-year break in the industry and I am very happy about it!

Before I left UWE in 2013, I used to run the MSc Finance programme, be the module leader of a number of undergraduate and postgraduate modules, supervised undegraduate final year projects and MSc dissertations and also set up and oversaw the Bloomberg Trading Room.

I am the creator of the "Credit Management: Theory and Practice" and "Credit Risk Analysis and Management" modules, which aim to provide students with a solid understanding of credit management and credit risk and prepare them for a career in the area. Past graduates of these modules have found jobs with financial and credit institutions in the UK (e.g. Virgin Money, RBS, Nationwide Building Society, Atradius to name a few) and abroad (e.g. BMW FInance Malaysia).

At Nationwide Building Society, I was Senior Risk Manager and led a team of six people (Analysts to Risk Manager Lead) validating the Society's retail models, both operational as well as regulatory. My role exposed me to a variety of credit risk modelling techniques and a large number of asset classes, ranging from retail (scorecards, loan pricing, etc.) to wholesale (e.g. Treasury, financial reporting, stress testing, etc.). I also project managed the validation of all IFRS9 models and was responsible for the annual self-attestation to the PRA that all of the Society's models were in line with regulations. My highlight at Nationwide was the validation of the Nationwide House Price Index (HPI) model, which saw me collaborate with Nationwide's Chief Economist and present to senior committees.

After Nationwide, I joined the Bank of England and the Prudential Regulation Authority to be more exact. My responsibility as a Risk Specialist was to ensure the good of the people of the United Kingdom! My colleagues and I supervised the capital and stress testing regime of all UK banks and building societies and ensured that their credit risk and stress testing models were compliant with regulation as well as statistically sound! I also collaborated closely with the PRA's Prudential Policy division as a subject matter expert and informed UK-wide policies on a number of policy projects relating to the regulatory capital regime. My highlight with the BoE was the interaction with very senior bank executives (CROs, Global Heads of among others) on our firm visits.

As of September 2018, I am back at Nationwide full-time looking after the Society's capital model estate (AIRB) and driving the modelling methodology oversight framework for the entire Society with a focus on machine learning and artifical intelligence. I'm also at UWE as an Associate Lecturer hoping to share my knowledge and experience with the students who are willing to listen to me talk about Credit, Finance and Banking and also revive my own research in the area of credit risk!

I am located in 5X222 on selected days and I'm only one e-mail away! Drop in and say hi!
