About me
Background
A member of the University of the West of England (UWE) Alumni, having graduated with first-class BSc (Hons) in Psychology with Criminology before going on to achieve a distinction in my Social Sciences Masters in Research (MRes). My project involved developing and piloting a critical consciousness intervention, exploring population level well-being. From a Community Psychology perspective, this work aimed to extend our understanding of some of the potential wider, contextual influences on our well-being in the UK. Such factors included economic disparity, capitalism, neoliberalism and the media. This research was associated with Dr Miles Thompson and the stream of work is still available on YouTube via this link.
More broadly speaking, I am an active member of the Psychological Sciences Research Group (PSRG) where my interests revolve around promoting psychological health and well-being. I am also a keen advocate of Open Science practices which can be seen within my research and teaching.
Teaching
The majority of my teaching experience comes from my time at UWE employed as an Associate Lecturer and now Lecturer in Psychology. Spanning the past five years, my teaching has predominately focused on the development and delivery of research methods and statistics modules to undergraduate students. I also have a strong involvement in the module 'Developing the Self and Society' (DSAS) which provides students with an opportunity to explore how the theory and concepts from their course can be applied to real world issues in the workplace. This module also helps students to develop skills for future employment.
Being previously nominated by students for 'Tutor of the year' in the UWE staff excellence awards is a particular highlight of my academic career so far.
