About me

Research: my research focuses on organisational space, artefacts and the materiality of work. I have expertise in qualitative research methods including visual methodologies, specifically, participant-led photography. I have led research projects with Stride Treglown and ISG, the Environment Agency, Bristol, the NHS North Bristol Trust, and a wide variety of Hair and Beauty Salons across the UK. My research has industry and academic impact and has been published in journals including Human Relations, Organizational Research Methods, Management Learning and the International Journal of Work, Organisation and Emotion. My work is internationally recognised at the highest level, having won Paper of the Year 2015 in Human Relations.

Together with colleagues at UWE and the University of Swansea, we have recently been awarded funding from the Society for Advancement of Management Studies to run an ECR Workshop exploring Digital Research Methods - follow us and the project on Twitter @DigMethods2021

Research-led Business Engagement: I work with a variety of organisations on partnership projects with economic, social and cultural impact, including: Maverick/ Tech Data, Europe; WAVE – Women in AV, UK; The Working Parent Company; the Affordable Art Fair, London; and Work Wise UK.

Current industry funded research projects include:

£10,000 'Grants 4 Growth' fund - collaborative research project with The Orange Tree co-working hub in Bristol, exploring the lives of entrepreneurs working in shared, coworking, community-based spaces.

£10,000 'Grants 4 Growth' fund - collaborative research project in partnership with FET, UWE, BAM and Hydrock exploring how designers and engineers make sense of energy efficiency when designing new HE buildings.

In 2014 I achieved the status of Fellow of The Higher Education Academy. My teaching activities include postgraduate and undergraduate Module Leadership and Programme Leadership in the areas of leadership studies, self-leadership identity, creative interventions for change, and coaching and mentoring. My pedagogical approach encompasses reflective practice and the use of innovative visual methods and online technologies.
