About me

I joined UWE in 2003 as a PhD student and associate lecturer and became a lecturer in 2010.  I have taught a number of modules and topics around film history and film theory including world cinema, documentary theory and lately film festivals and phenomenological approaches to film.

My general area of interest is the relation between film and politics with a particular focus in Latin American cinema and on Documentary film. More recently, I am also interested in the role film festivals play in promoting films and as spaces for advocacy and networking.

Since its inception, I am a member of the collective that organises each year the Bristol Radical Film Festival.

Since September 2022 I am joint programme leader for film studies.

Area of expertise

Contemporary Argentine cinema,  political cinema (particularly Third Cinema in Latin America) and its comparison to current practices of political filmmaking around the globe. I am also very interested in issues of documentary theory, particularly the relation between image and reality. Through my involvement with the Bristol Radical Film Festival, I am also working on the social functions of all sorts of cultural events partiularly film festivals and community screenings.
