About me

I completed my PhD at UWE in 2021 with a thesis entitled 'Investigating the disease-promoting abilities of gut bacteria in colorectal tumour cells'. I then worked at the University of Bath on a project investigating the role of epigenetics, specifically 5hmC in colorectal cancer metastasis. I gained industry experience at a biotech start-up company using molecular diagnostic methods to detect microorganisms in pharmaceutical and clinical samples. In 2023, I returned to UWE and now hold a position as a Lecturer in Microbiology.

Area of expertise

My research focusses on the interactions between microorganisms and the colonic epithelium, with a specific focus on colorectal cancer. I am interested in how bacteria, and their metabolites or virulence factors, are able to influence the progression from healthy epithelium, to benign adenoma and eventually malignant carcinoma.
