About me

I'm a microbiologist interested in how gut microorganisms contribute to development of colorectal cancer and cause infectious disease. My research includes the use of in vitro co-culture systems and bioinformatic approaches to determine which microbial genes are important to their pathology.

I completed my PhD at UWE in 2022 with a thesis entitled 'Investigating the disease-promoting abilities of gut bacteria in colorectal tumour cells'. I subsequently completed a period of postdoctoral research at the University of Bath on an UKRI MRC-funded project investigating colorectal cancer epigenetics. After the completion of this project I worked in biotechnology developing rapid microbial diagnostics, before returning to UWE in 2023.

Area of expertise

My research employs a number of varied techniques including:

Mammalian cell culture, clinical microbiology, microbial genomics and bioinformatics.
