About me
Jim is Professor of Environmental Science and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Environment and Sustainability at UWE, Bristol. He was Associate Dean for Learning, Teaching and the Student Experience in the Faculty of Environment and Technology (FET). He is Executive Director of the Air Quality Management Resource Centre, provides executive leadership for the WHO Collaborating Centre on Healthy Urban Environments and leads the Knowledge Exchange for Sustainability Education initiative in UWE. Until August 2015 he provided strategic oversight of the Environmental Technologies iNet. Jim chairs the university’s Sustainability Board and led the development of the university’s Sustainability Plan for 2013 -2020. Jim provides cross-university leadership in research, knowledge exchange and programme development in sustainability, health and environment. His national roles include Vice President and Company Secretary of the UK Institution of Environmental Sciences, Honorary Vice President of Environmental Protection UK, Director and Trustee of the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges and Director of the Bristol Green Capital Partnership CIC. He chaired the HEA Education for Sustainable Development Advisory Group and the HEA /QAA Development Group which produced the UK reference point on ESD. He is a former chair of the GEES Subject Centre Advisory Board, the QAA Benchmarking Panel for Earth Sciences, Environmental Science and Environmental Studies and of the GWR Sustainability Panel. He served as a Director of Society for the Environment and the Science Council. His biographical details were first included in Who’s Who in 2004. His research has been supported by many sources including the EPSRC, ESRC, NERC, Defra, the Environment Agency and his career research and consultancy income is approximately £14 million.
