About me

Jane is an economist and social scientist working at UWE, Bristol as a public health academic. She is Professor of Public Health Economics and Director of the Centre for Public Health and Wellbeing.

Area of expertise

Jane specialises in multidisciplinary public health. She is a panel member of the NIHR Research for Patient Benefit Funding Board and a member of the editorial board, International Journal of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity. She is the author of over 150 journal papers, books, reports and articles.  Jane is co-editor of the textbook ‘public health for the 21st century: new perspectives on policy, participation and practice’ Open University Press.  This book has provided much of the momentum for UWE's approach to professional and practice-led workforce development in public health. The Centre for Public Health and Wellbeing is a Centre of Excellence at UWE for teaching and learning, postgraduate studies and research with impact.  Jane has been part of the UWE Public & Environmental Health and Specialist Community Public Health teams at UWE for 18 years and has seen many students pass through successfully.
