About me

I have extensive experience teaching and leading early years and primary age education in the UK and internationally. I currently teach on the Early Childhood degree, the Early Years Initial Teacher Training programme, the International Early Years PGCE and the EC SHAPE programme in Hong Kong.

My Masters degree research dissertation examined the dynamic of the home-school relationship for parents, with a particular focus on Romani (Gypsy), Roma and Irish Traveller communities. My research involved exploring factors such as class, health, poverty and family resources and a critical discussion of societal and cultural norms and expectations in school.

I have undertaken research projects into the development of mathematical language in the early years and have contributed to enhancement of practice for school transition. I am a trained executive functioning skills coach for children and adults.

My interests include how children explore and make sense of their world through play in all environments including nature. I have a particular interest in how a pedagogy of play and children's participation can be promoted throughout all years of early childhood (0-8 years) and beyond. I am currently training with the Froebel Trust and the Early Childhood Studies Degree Network .
