About me

Jonathan Snary is a Senior Lecturer in Accountancy and Finance teaching strategy, financial management and case study across a range of UWE programmes.  A graduate of Oxford University, he is a fellow of the ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) and was president of the ICAEW in the West of England in 2017-18.

Before joining the University of West of England, Jonathan was College Director and Principal of colleges at Brunel University London and ARU in Cambridge, and latterly executive general manager for a portfolio of five colleges across the UK, responsible for recruitment, compliance and the student experience. 

Previously Jonathan taught students at BPP Professional Education for nearly 20 years, helping thousands of students pass their professional exams for the ICAEW, ICAS, CIMA, ACCA, CFA and AAT qualifications.  He also ran BPP's campuses across Central and Eastern Europe as managing director, before returning to the UK to lead the business and law schools in Bristol from 2011-2016. 

Jonathan trained in London with PriceWaterhouseCoopers (legacy firm Coopers and Lybrand), working in corporate finance – mergers & acquisitions and project finance for four years.

His office hours are 0900-1600 Monday to Friday.

He is available for student queries Wednesday 0900-1000 and Thursday 1600-1700.

Area of expertise

In total Jonathan has over 25 years teaching experience and over 20 years leadership and management experience - leading small businesses with revenue of £1m as well as divisions with budgets over £50m.

He also supervises MBA and MSc dissertation students in various strategy, performance and financial management areas.

Jonathan has decades of experience examining, assessing, marking and writing questions for professional accountancy bodies and universities.  He has also sold, developed and delivered significant practical programmes in finance to non financial managers.
