Dr Kerry Montgomery

Kerry is currently leading a research project exploring family planning and reproductive decision-making among people with inherited conditions that affect appearance. The findings are informing the development of training for healthcare professionals supporting people with reproductive decision-making, pregnancy and the postnatal period. Her research interests include reproductive decision-making, assistive technologies and improving person-centred care. Kerry has a background in psychology, and her PhD explored mindfulness-based interventions for people experiencing social anxiety associated with skin conditions. She has since held postdoctoral research positions evaluating interventions, including peer support, for people with visible differences. Kerry has worked with several visible difference charities and spent four years with Alopecia UK, developing resources to support the psychological impact of hair loss. She also spent 10 years working in NHS psychological therapies services, using CBT-based approaches to support people experiencing anxiety, depression and long-term health conditions. Kerry has a particular interest in patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) and experience of managing equity, diversity and inclusion projects in relation to visible difference
