About me

Dr. Kevin Golden is Dean and Head of School of Computing and Creative Technologies. As an applied mathematician, his early work was on research in continuum mechanics and rheology (the study of the deformation of materials).

Throughout his career he has developed his understanding and abilities as a mathematics educator and has a successful record of working in curriculum development and outreach projects. His work with the AccessHE network culminated in a European Social Fund project to increase access to numerate degree disciplines for learners from disadvantaged backgrounds through the creation of a learning platform that integrated e-assessments with web-based learning materials.

Throughout his career Kevin has introduced curriculum innovations. He worked on various projects as part of the National HE STEM programme involving mathematical modelling and the mathematics education of engineers. As Academic Director for Engineering Design and Mathematics he led the introduction of a practice-based learning-based learning curriculum developing students as professional engineers and professional mathematical scientists as part of a transformation of engineering and mathematics education at UWE.

Kevin was a long standing member of the Heads of Department of Mathematical Sciences organising committee, served on the Education Committee of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications and is currently a member of a London Mathematical Society working group on promoting teaching mathematics as a career to mathematics graduates.

Area of expertise

Kevin's areas of expertise is in incorporating mathematical modelling and applications in HE curricula, curriculum development in STEM subjects, problem based learning, outreach activties and HE quality assurance processes.
