About me

I am a lecturer in Biomedical Sciences with a particular interest in cancer genetics and cell pathology. I have worked previously as a researcher in academia, one post at Cardiff University where I was investigating genetic origins of breast cancer heterogeneity, the other at Swansea University where I was developing a novel targeted therapy for ovarian cancer. I gained my PhD from Cardiff Univesity where I was investigating resistance mechanisms to a targeted therapy for breast cancer.

Area of expertise

Despite targeted therapies significantly improving therapy for cancer, every single patient is at risk of the tumour returning. This occurs as the cancer cells become resistant to the therapy and survive, leading to the tumour growing back. This is termed tumour relapse and is a major clinical problem, as patients that display resistance currently have no therapeutic options. This highlights a critical need for a better understanding of the mechanisms involved.

My research focuses on investigating the mechanisms of resistance to cancer therapy in the hope of discovering new drugs for these patients.
