About me

Dr. Maksud Onal is a Lecturer in Economics and Finance at Bristol Business School, UWE, Bristol. Maksud earned his PhD in Finance from Bangor Business School, Bangor University (University of Wales at Bangor) in 2019. He obtained his MSc in Corporate Finance degree from Henley Business School, University of Reading. He also holds a BSc in Economics.

Maksud is a member of the Governance and Accountability Research Group (GARG) and Sustainable Economies Research Group within the AFE department, UWE.

His academic research interests encompass corporate governance, sustainable finance and business, climate change and green finance, corporate social responsibility, financial inclusion, financial technology, banking and corporate finance.  He has recently been working on papers exploring the board of directors and risk governance structure and their impacts on financial performance and risk-taking, corporate governance practices and their effects on sustainability in businesses in general and ESG performance specifically, the factors that affect crypto assets investments, the financial inclusion and the financial literacy level of disadvantaged groups in society, and investigating banking activities within the context of sustainability. He secured external funding for a research project on city financing and successfully completed it in 2021. He is the author of a book on city financing and two book chapters on financial technology and banking and interest-free banking systems and practices. Maksud is an associate editor of an international journal and also an active reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals. 

He currently welcomes PhD candidates who share his research interests.
