About me
After completing a BSc(Hons) Psychology and an MSc Computer Science at the University of Bristol, I worked as a software developer in commercial and public sectors on a wide variety of applications. I completed a PhD at UWE in 2012 entitled 3D Face Recognition Using Photometric Stereo and now work as a Professor in the Centre for Machine Vision on a wide range of projects, mainly in agri-tech and deep learning.
Example current and recent projects:
- InnovateUK - Intellipig: An automated on-farm pig health monitoring system, AgSenze
- InnovateUK - Mealworm protein for animal feed: Automating and optimising production. Mr Bug
- JPIAMR JPIAMR2021-169: FARM interventions to Control Antimicrobial ResistancE, SRUC, University of Copenhagen, PorkColumbia, University College Dublin
- BBSRC BB/X001385/1: Pig ID: developing a deep learning machine vision system to track pigs using individual biometrics, SRUC
- AHRC AH/X006522/1: An investigation of 3D technologies applied to historic textiles for improved understanding, conservation and engagement
- IUK-KTP 10009531: Potato image analysis, BHive Innovation Ltd
- IUK-KTP: Classification of LEO from fixed wing aircraft, Metrea Ltd.
- IUK-KTP: AI-driven educational software platform, EmpoweringTech Ltd
- IUK-KTP: Smart nurseries, Family adventures Ltd
More details of my work can be found on my webpage.
I have supervised 10 PhDs to completion and currently supervise 3 PhD within UWE, the Farscope CDT and SWBio schemes.
I am an Associate Editor for Elsevier's Computers and Electronics in Agriculture.
I am also a Unit of Assessment co-lead for REF29.
Area of expertise
