About me
Martin is a children’s nurse with a background in surgical specialities including Burns and Plastics, Maxillo-Facial and Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery. Martin has experience in service development and innovation and has established nurse-led surgical pre-assessment services. Martin has also had experience in Research, holding a post at the Healing Foundation Children’s Burns Research Centre. Patient and Public Involvement was his particular area of interest within the centre. Martin joined the team in March 2014.
I am module leader for Sustainable Global Public Health in the Bsc (Hons) Nursing programme. This innovative module received a highly commended ward in the Tomorrow's Employees category at the 2022 UK and Ireland Green Gown awards. I have presented the evalaution of this module at the International Nursing Ethics Conference in September 2022 and the Joint Irish Public Health Conference in November 2022. I have recently won the Sustainability in Teaching and Learning at the UWE Student Experience Awards and Sustainable Global Public Health has been shortlisted for a Nursing Times Award.
I have an MSc in Sustainable Development in Practice. I have conducted a survey of UK university offer on sustainability and climate education in nursing curricula. I am currently leading a two research bids. One is exploring the experiences of learning disability service users and climate change through drama and arts. The other is a mixed methods study looking at the care delivery to individuals in distress in Emergency Departments during extreme weather events.
