About me
My role as Workforce Development Portfolio Lead covers the postgraduate and postqualifing education across the professions in the School of Health and Social Wellbeing. Working with external partners to support the development of their workforce to meet their system or organisational aims, and the professions to understand the aspirations of their professionals.
As Clinical Lead for the Optometry I led on the development and delivery of the placement circuit for the optometry programme as well as the development of the UWE Bristol Eye Clinic.
A background in delivering high quality eye care within community optometry as well as the multidisciplinary services at Bristol Eye Hospital, I have also organised and led on service delivery and service improvement within the secondary care environment, and across the primary care and secondary care interface. My teaching experience has encompassed undergraduate optometry education through to post graduate clinical training and supervision in complex clinical care settings in a tertiary referral centre.
Immediate Past President, Chair of the Board of Trustees, and a past Chair of Education and Standards at the College of Optometrists, I am also an expert advisor to the NICE Centre for Guidelines for eye disorders.
During my time with Optometry Wales, as and Executive Board member and Clinical Advisor, I was involved in developing eye health policy positions and responding to Welsh Government consultations, including the first Eye Care Plan for Wales and Welsh Governments commitment to the public health agenda for eye care in Wales.
The Eye Clinic at the Glenside Campus, a facility for the delivery of comprehensive eye care, will provide clinical and non clinical aspects of patient facing care to the optometry undergraduates in their final year of undergraduate training before they enter their pre-registration year and the Scheme for Registration.
If you are interested in becoming part of our placement circuit providing optometry undergraduates real world experience you can contact me via email.
