About me

As Team Lead and Area Co-ordinator for Digital Fabrication for the last 9 years Michelle has continuously evolved the department to expand and deliver emerging technologies, making sure we are responding to advancements and providing excellent teaching and resources for the students within the School of Arts. A drive for continuous learning and passion for sharing knowledge underpins Michelle's and the team's approach.

Michelle co creates and delivers a wide range of sessions within the department, spanning all types of digital production. Together we teach software skills and train students to harness, explore and innovate with the materials and equipment we offer.

As an experienced educator, Michelle works with students from a wide variety of programs to support their skill acquisition of fundamental design principles, in depth technological techniques and industry specific creation.

Michelle's training in Interdisciplinary Design has allowed her to use design knowledge and skills to produce work for a wide variety of scales and applications from jewellery pieces, to large scale festival installations. Her passion lies in creating 2D pattern and surface, while exploring new ways of manifesting them via 3D form.

Michelle uses the relationship between the physical and digital crafts to cross over and intertwine both innovative and traditional making. She is an exploratory maker guided by materials, process, functionality and aesthetic.

Prior experience as a freelance Designer Maker, Fine Art Digital Reproduction and in Digital Printing have given Michelle the opportunity to work with, collaborate alongside and support a broad spectrum of people within the creative industries.

As a Team Leader within UWE Michelle has developed strong connections with colleagues across departments, sought out training opportunities an aims to inclusively support people through their own development.
