About me

I gained my PhD in 2021 (Public International Law)—having previously been employed in a diplomatic setting—with the thesis, A Legal Framework for Regulating Autonomous Weapons Systems (AWS). While AWS remain the primary focus of my continuing research, I have also published recent papers in which I assess how the introduction of increasing capable AI agents, in general, may impact upon existing international law norms (specifically those related to the use of force, international humanitarian law and its intersection with international human rights law). Given the inherently interdisciplinary nature of this area of study, I also seek to engage, for example, with additional disciplines such as international relations, strategic studies, and ethics.

Area of expertise

Conflict and Security; International Humanitarian Law; Use of Force/ Collective Security; International Human Rights Law; Ethical Clauses within LOAC (e.g., The Martens Clause); Law of the European Union.
