About me

My PhD research aims to understand how fan fiction authors reimagine female and non-binary characters through the fan fiction which they read and write, across a range of genres. The research will help paint a clear picture as to how and why women and non-binary characters are being reimagined in fan fiction communities, and what political, societal or feminist understandings are underpinning these reimaginings. These questions could also help to understand how the increase in women and non-binary characters in media has impacted the fan fiction community, as well as how this has impacted society more widely, and discussions of gender and gender politics in media.

I am also an associate lecturer on the first-year Psychology modules Introduction to Psychology and Psychology in Action, and am an Academic Personal Tutor for year 1 of the UWE Psychology programme. Additionally, I am working as a student partner with the Academic Practice Directorate; contributing to two QAA-funded projects around making the language of assessment accessible for students and embedding inclusive assessment.
