About me

My initial training in Optometry was at the University of Benin, Nigeria. Following that, I was awarded a Fellowship in Paediatric Optometry with the Nigerian Postgraduate College of Optometrists.

In 2011, I began lecturing Optometry at the University of Benin and then proceeded with PhD studies, in Vision Sciences, with The Research Unit for Nystagmus at Cardiff University in 2019. My PhD studies involved the use of a high-speed eye tracker, with psychophysical visual acuity testing, to evaluate fixational eye movements in people with Infantile nystagmus. I also have a keen interest in research and eye care needs of children and young people with learning disability, some of whom have nystagmus.

Part of my role at UWE involves leading the 'Ocular Anatomy and the Visual System' module for the new MSci program, as well as the 'Binocular Vision and Paediatrics' module. I am also a member of the Centre for Health and Clinical Research (Children, Young People and Families Research Theme), and have a secondary affiliation to the Psychological Science Research Group.

I have supervised a number of Doctor of Optometry (OD) students and currently open to applications for PhD supervision.

Current Research

I am the Principal Investigator for the PEPChiLD project, aimed at investigating eye care practice for children with learning disabilities (2025/2026). Funding - BNSSG ICB Research Capability Funding (RCF), Type 2 award.

I also collaborate on a Fight for Sight/Nystagmus Network funded project using eye tracking to investigate perceptual learning treatment in Infantile Nystagmus.
