About me

I am a Senior Lecturer in Social Work at UWE, Bristol and am the Programme Leader for the Professional Development Award (Social Work). I am the Module Leader for:

  • Best Interests Assessment

I have taught on the UWE Best Interests Assessment module (a Department of Health approved Best Interests Assessor (BIA) qualifying module) since October 2008 and will be redeveloping this for the implementation of the Approved Mental Capacity Professional (AMCP) role when the Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) amendments to the Mental Capacity Act are implimented.

I teach adult social care law and practice, adult safeguarding law and practice, mental capacity and deprivation of liberty law and anti-oppressive practice on the undergraduate social work programme and also run BIA refresher training to enable BIAs to meet their annual CPD requirements.

I am registered with Social Work England as a social worker and have practice experience in adult social care, mental health and as a BIA. I have a PGCE in Learning and Skills and am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.‚Äč I am currently a Professional Doctorate in Social Work student at Cardiff University.

My research interests include applied mental health and human rights law and anti-oppressive social work practice, including LGBTQ+ identity and gender diversity.
