After a first degree in Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College, Richard went to the Royal College of Art (RCA) and obtained a Masters Degree in the Industrial Design Engineering department. Graduation from the RCA was followed by a Research Associate position at the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design, a multidisciplinary institute for inclusive design.
Richard then moved to Loughborough University to study for a PhD, the topic of his research was: 'Integration of EcoDesign Principles within Small Product Design Consultancies'. Whilst at Loughborough University he also worked as a researcher on a number of Sustainable Design projects funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
Richard is currently based in the College of Arts, Technology and Environment (CATE) at the University of the West of England (UWE). He is involved in the development, delivery and assessment of modules that form part of the BSc (Hons) Product Design Technology and BA (Hons) Product Design programmes.
