Area of expertise

Dick originally trained for a career in Electronics but was fortunate to be able to combine an interest in stage lighting and live audio with an opportunity to work in an educational TV studio and media service.

A move to Bristol provided for a further opportunity to develop and grow TV, Film, & Media production facilities in Higher Education at a time when emerging technologies were becoming more accessible as part of teaching & learning in media related subject areas.

Growth in the area was so successful that it necessitated a reorganisation of programme clusters including the move to Bower Ashton and lay the foundations for Film-Making and Media Production as part of the School or Arts, City Campus offer today.

Dick’s role continued to grow and readily embraced new technologies and managerial opportunities across a number of leadership roles at UWE eventually rejoining the Film & Media operations at City Campus.

Dick has been instrumental in raising the profile of technical staff in Higher Education and helped introduce Instructing roles within the Technical community. The Teaching Technicians are able to bridge theory & practice – essential for an effective student learning experience.

He is an advocate for a Safe & Healthy working environment, and equality of opportunity for all staff and students.
