About me

I completed a BSc(Hons) in Geography & Applied Physics at Manchester Polytechnic (1987) and a PhD at Edinburgh University (1993). My doctorate was concerned with the measurement of radionuclides in soil and their use as indicators of acidic deposition in the highland areas of Scotland and northern England. During, and in between periods of full-time study I worked on several archaeological excavations in Wales and Switzerland, and also carried out laboratory analysis of cave sediments at Manchester Polytechnic (geoarchaeology). In 1994 I accepted a post at UWE, Bristol to analyse sediments for the Pontnewydd Cave Project (National Museum of Wales) and support the teaching of physical geography. Over several years I began to take on wider teaching duties and in 2001 I became a full time lecturer. I am now a senior lecturer in physical geography and also the leader of the Construction & Property Foundation Year.
