About me

Sarah joined UWE in 2012 as a Senior Lecturer within the Accounting and Finance department. In 2018 Sarah became Programme leader for BA (Hons) Business Management with Accounting and Finance and held the post until 2020.  Sarah was appointed Associate Head of Department (Subject): Accounting and Finance in 2019. Sarah held this post for 18months during the pandemic. The role involved line managing 50+ people, recruitment, timetabling and resource management.  Sarah decided to step down in the summer of 2021, to focus on her teaching and research.

Sarah qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) in 2008, training and qualifying with Ernst & Young (Bristol) LLP. Whilst at EY she held the role of Assurance Executive, working on high profile clients such as Orange PLC (now EE) and Hamptons International estate agents.

In 2009 Sarah moved into industry, taking up the position of Financial Accountant for a local Plc. This role involved preparing the group statutory financial statements and managing the Cashiers department.

Sarah decided to make the move to Academia when her second child was born. During her time at UWE, Sarah has taught on a number of accounting modules and developed a few from scratch. Sarah is currently Module Leader for Foundations of Financial accounting (FOFA); Audit; Financial Accounting & Reporting (FAR). Sarah also supervises UG and MSc dissertations.

Sarah prides herself in being student focused and believes students learn best in a relaxed environment with an approachable lecturer. Sarah says ‘In my opinion, this job is all about the students. I love going to graduation as it reminds me what it’s all about ... watching students achieve the degree they deserve after all their hard work’

Sarah is currently completing a Doctorate in Education, which started in October 2020. Sarah's research area is ethnic minority awarding gaps, with a particular focus on decolonising the accounting curriculum.
