About me
I am a Senior Lecturer and Early Career Researcher in the School of Education and Childhood. My qualifications include a Doctorate in Education, Post Graduate Certificate in Academic and Professional Practice, Early Years Teacher Status and BA (Hons) Early Years Education. I am also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). Prior to my appointment at UWE in 2019, I spent 20 years working in the early education sector in the UK, including 12 years as Head of Early Education for a successful charity in Bristol.
In my current role I am involved in teaching and supervision across a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at UWE, with a particular focus on research methods, leadership and professional skills in education and early childhood. I am also Programme Lead for the BA (Hons) Early Years Education and involved in teaching and supervision on the MA Education and EdD programmes.
My research focuses on aspects of doctoral pedagogy, doctoral student experience and researcher development, particularly in relation to academic writing and methodological decision making. My own doctoral research used a narrative methodology to explore doctoral students' perceptions of their developing methodological understanding/identities. My current research (2022-24) includes a focus on the pedagogical role of doctoral progression assessment (internal/faculty funded) and on the experiences of doctoral students who engage with creative research practices. I am also currently co-editing a book, alongside Professors Richard Waller and Jane Andrews, which will feature a collection of chapters from UWE doctoral students which explore aspects of Educational Policy and Professional Identity.
