About me

I am Director of Research and Enterprise for the School of Education and Childhood. My role involves supporting, championing and coordinating research and enterprise activities across the school.

My research focuses on aspects of doctoral pedagogy and researcher development, particularly in relation to academic writing and methodological decision making. I am also interested in the application, and impact potential, of arts-based research approaches, particularly through professional doctorates.

My own doctoral research used a narrative methodology to explore doctoral students' perceptions of their developing methodological understanding/identities.  My recent research also includes a focus on the pedagogical role of doctoral progression assessment, a project exploring the experiences of EdD students who engage with arts-based research and an ECSDN funded study looking at the contributions and experiences of early childhood graduates in the UK. I have also co-edited two recent books, Critical Perspectives on Educational Policies and Professional Identities (2024) and Debating Childhood (due for publication Oct 2025).

I have a professional background in early years and community education. I am co-lead for the Children, Childhood and Young People strand of the UWE Education and Childhood Research Group and a member of the Early Childhood Studies Degree Network Research and Knowledge Exchange Strategy Group.

Please feel free to contact me in my capacity as Director of Research and Enterprise about research collaborations or opportunities relating to all areas of education and childhood, including potential doctoral studies.
