About me

Tonia Carless is an academic researching spatial politics and everyday life, the production of public space.

Current research publications include those on The Wholesale Moving of buildings in Northern Sweden as the most immediate form of spatial restructuring, simultaneously an everyday practice but also extraordinary of the region. The research is focused on building moving as a method of directly addressing uneven development in terms of the allocation of resources of architecture and built fabric. It offers a wider theory of the practice as a sustainable strategy to counter current mass housing approaches. Her research project house_Flow has been selected from hundereds to be exhibited at The Copenhagen Architecture Biennial 2025 https://www.cafx.dk/biennial/program/ge

She researches through design, drawing and visual practice. She completed a practice based PhD, through written, drawn and spatial thesis on architectural drawing and its relationship with the changing conditions of urban space. She also has publications on architectural drawing, public space and visual research methods.
