About me
I teach and conduct research in the intersecting areas of qualitative and critical psychology, sexuality and gender, family and relationships, and appearance and embodiment. My books include the market leading and award winning textbook Successful Qualitative Research: https://uk.sagepub.com/en-gb/eur/successful-qualitative-research/book233059
And, my most recent book Collecting Qualitative Data: https://www.cambridge.org/core/books/collecting-qualitative-data/FF8186F212D9C28A1CBFA3C8FFA4FBDD
I am particularly known for my work on qualitative methods and thematic analysis (TA) with Virginia Braun. We are currently writing a book on TA for Sage Publications. According to Google Scholar our original paper on TA is the most cited academic paper published in 2006. You can read this paper here: http://eprints.uwe.ac.uk/11735/2/thematic_analysis_revised...
You can read more about our approach on our TA website: www.psych.auckland.ac.nz/thematicanalysis
With the Story Completion Research Group we are also exploring and developing story completion methods for qualitative research - you can read more about this on our website: https://www.psych.auckland.ac.nz/en/about/our-research/research-groups/story-completion.html
I recently gave a lecture on TA that maps out various approaches to TA, and how they differ in terms of procedure and underlying philosophy: https://youtu.be/4voVhTiVydc
Virginia and I have also given a public lecture providing an introduction to our TA approach: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=5&v=kv7C53yvLqk
I have also created a craftivism project that seeks to provide an antidote to the rise in popularity of designer vagina cosmetic surgery: https://quik.gopro.com/v/ersI5WhEC3/
Another collaborative craftivism project with Elizabeth Jenkinson sought to promote the value of crafting for well being: https://quik.gopro.com/v/9F5j5dlv44/
