About me
I joined UWE to study for my PhD and began teaching in 1997. I have taught on a wide variety of modules based around the 19th through 21st-century British and American novel and am currently module leader for 'Genre and Creative Writing' and 'Occasions for Writing'.
My research is broadly centred on contemporary novels written by women and I am particularly interested in representations of ageing. My publications include The Older Woman in Recent Fiction (2004) and Brontë’s Jane Eyre (2010). Most recently I have been writing about Angela Carter's creation of a Gothic Bristol in her 'Bristol Trilogy' and considering the Gothic genre's representation of old age.
I welcome expressions of interest from students who wish to embark on a PhD in the areas of ageing, gender, the Gothic and contemporary fiction.
