About me

I am an academic geographer with an integrated profile across environmental research, GIS and remote sensing, and leadership and scholarship in higher education learning, teaching and assessment. My work is driven by a strong commitment to research-informed education, inclusive curriculum design, and the development of coherent, skills-focused programmes.

My research has two key themes of scholarship in geography and higher education pedagogies and practice and applied environmental and hydroclimate research. My PhD explored the spatio-temporal influence of atmospheric circulations on hydroclimate within Great Britain. I have published widely in leading international journals and led and contributed to collaborative projects spanning higher education, policy and international networks. My dual research focus allows me to translate disciplinary research into educational practice and pedagogic insight into curriculum and assessment innovation.

I lead the BSc(hons) Geography and Degree Apprenticeship Environmental Practitioner programmes at UWE. My teaching focuses around environmental challenges, climate change and GIS and remote sensing, but I contribute to a broad range of physical geography and environmental management modules. My teaching and leadership focus is on embedding assessment for learning, innovative, inclusive and authentic assessment, and longitudinal skills development.

Beyond UWE, I play an active role in disciplinary and pedagogic communities. I contribute through editorial board membership, leadership of learned-society research groups, conference convening, external examining and professional development for educators. I am currently on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Geography in HE and am Treasurer of the Bristol Branch of the Geographical Association. Previously I have held roles with the Geography & Education Research Group (RGS-IBG) and International Journal for Students as Partners. Through these roles, I support the development of geography education research and practice, contribute to agenda-setting within the discipline, and build connections between research, teaching and professional communities at regional, national and international scales.
