Area of expertise

Research:

Priyanshu is a specialist in advancing sustainable construction materials, bridging fundamental science with market-ready applications. His research into microstructural characterization and reaction-kinetics is grounded in extensive hands-on experimentation, utilizing XRD, XRF, SEM-EDX, PSA, TGA, FTIR, ISO-Cal. He leverages this deep analytical capability complemented by proficiency in engineering software (AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino-Grasshopper, Simulia ABAQUS) and laboratory methods for macro-structural and durability testing to develop innovative solutions. These include carbon-sequestering systems, Martian concrete, and novel alternative binders for 3D printing, delivering practical and durable material solutions for complex challenges.

This is exemplified by key projects including the “Performance Evaluation of Biomass Ash-Based Binders for Building Applications” (funded by Saint-Gobain Research India), exploring “Biomass as an Alternative Fuel for Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCM) Processing” (funded by FLSmidth), the “Development of Waterless Extra-Terrestrial Concrete Using Martian Regolith” (funded by EXTEM), and “Low Carbon Cement” (funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation).

Teaching:

Priyanshu is responsible for delivering multiple core modules, including Construction Materials, Surveying & GIS, and Civil Engineering Field Study. His teaching methodology blends focused lectures with interactive workshops and hands-on lab sessions to bridge theoretical concepts and practical application. He authors curricula, designs and grades assessments with personalized feedback, and supervises final-year projects. Priyanshu also leads key administrative and safety initiatives, developing standard operating procedures and conducting risk assessments for the Construction Materials laboratory. His pedagogy is defined by an inclusive approach, incorporating industry case studies to develop students' professional skills, technical expertise, and career readiness.

Supervision:

Meenasha Surendran, undergraduate, 2025 (Co-supervisor): Topic “Optimising Sodium Hydroxide-Activated Metakaolin-Based Geopolymer Paste.”
