About me
I completed a BSc in Environmental Biology at the University of London (Wye College), followed by a PhD at the University of Surrey investigating environmental influences on amphibian populations in the tropical forests of Central America.
Prior to joining UWE, I worked in ecological consultancy, managed a tropical biological station, taught for an environmental charity, and undertook contracts for NGOs, universities, and statutory authorities.
At UWE, I teach across ecology, biogeography, conservation, and environmental science themes.
Area of expertise
I am based at the Centre for Environment, Society and Resilience, where my research addresses problems in ecology, populations, community dynamics, behaviour, and conservation. I specialise in ecological statistics, species distribution modelling, and population analysis, working within both frequentist and Bayesian frameworks.
My research is collaborative, and I contribute to joint outputs with colleagues, students, and independent researchers. My current investigations include:
-Biogeography and ecology of tropical herpetofauna
-Animal behaviour both in-situ and ex-situ
-Human perceptions about ecology
-Climate effects on animal population dynamics
